• Are Exponent products dermatologist tested?

  Yes, the Exponent products are tested with a dermatologist review for safety, and clinically tested for efficacy.

• How did you select the ingredients you use in your products?

  We focused on “active”ingredients that have a long history of academic and peer-reviewed research for efficacy, but also known instability when formulated in cosmetic products. What's interesting is that many of the early studies on such ingredients were typically performed on “fresh” samples often made for academic research, not products that have been made to maximize shelf life. Each formula focuses on meaningful concentrations of each active to focus on 5 main skin concerns/benefits associated with each, including pure Vitamin C (L ascorbic acid) for brightening discoloration and sun damage; Retinol for targeting lines and wrinkles; CoQ10 for firming and repair; Botanical Green Tea and Resveratrol for strengthening aging, sensitive skin; and Probiotics and Enzymes for refining pores and clearing blemishes.

• What ingredients did you want to avoid when formulating these products and why?

  We avoided ingredients such as parabens, phthalates, sulfates, talc, formaldehyde releasers and others that have questionable safety issues.

• Is Exponent natural, cruelty free, vegan or gluten free?

  We would not call the formulas natural, as natural doesn't always mean better for you. We use safe but as effective as possible ingredients. Our products are cruelty free, vegan, and gluten-free.

• What is Exponent’s definition of ‘clean’ in formulation?

  We formulate with clean and safe ingredients without ever sacrificing efficacy -- meticulously prioritizing safety and performance over everything, compliant with European Union standards. Our products are thoughtfully formulated to be safe, effective and free from over 1,300 harmful ingredients - compliant with EU standards, the highest in the world for skincare safety (while the EU restricts 1,300+ ingredients for use in cosmetics, the United States, which only restricts 11).

• Are Exponent products fragrance free?

  Products do not contain synthetic fragrance; however each Active Powder contains a very small level of essential oil for both therapeutic and sensorial benefits (less than 1%). Our Brightening Boost Vitamin C contains Mandarin; Time Rewind Retinol contains Lavender; Firming Filter CoQ10 Antioxidant contains Rose Geranium; Calm Revival Green Tea/Resveratrol contains Chamomile; and Clear Comeback Probiotic/Enzyme contains Rosemary.

• Are Exponent products nut or soy free?

  Yes, they are nut and soy free.

• Why do you use PEG-8 in your products?

  PEGs get a bad reputation in ‘clean’ beauty not because of the underlying ingredient itself but because ethoxylated ingredients are often used to create them during the manufacturing process. Rest assured, we sourced our raw materials from a supplier who guarantees that their ingredient does not contain any harmful levels of ethoxylated materials with Ethylene Oxide <10ppm and 1,4-dioxane <10ppm. We use a PEG-8 in our formula because due to the unique nature of our form factor where Active Powders are combined with a Hyaluronic Hydrator in the moment before use, we needed to ensure the resulting formulation was fully dissolved and with a pleasant texture and we decided that the best emollient and skin conditioning agent to provide smoothness, slip and moisture with a powder was a PEG-8.

• Does Exponent use palm oil or any palm oil derivatives in your product?

  No, we do not use any palm oil or its derivatives in our products.

PRODUCT USAGE

• Are Exponent products suitable for all skin types?

  Yes, they can, and product selection is based on the skin concern you most want to improve and benefits you want to see and feel.

• Are your products pregnancy and nursing safe?

  All formulas are considered safe to use while pregnant or breastfeeding except the Enzyme/Probiotic Powder and Retinol Powder. Enzyme/Probitotic has willow bark that is standardized for salicylic acid and Retinol Powder is a form of vitamin A. However, as with any skincare product, we advise those who are pregnant or lactating to consult their physician prior to use.

• Are Exponent products safe for sensitive skin, hypoallergenic, and allergy-tested?

  All Exponent products are allergy tested for safety. However, alway patch test prior to use to make sure your skin tolerates any new topical skincare product.

• How many days of usage can I expect to get from Exponent products?

  The Active Powders each come with 45 doses, and the Quadruple Hyaluronic Acid Hydrator comes with 90 doses.

• What is the shelf life of Exponent products?

  Our powders have a two-year shelf life. Once opened, we recommend using our powders within 6 months for peak potency in our Self-Activating System that protects the powders from outside factors such as air, light and water.

CLINICAL RESULTS, RESEARCH & TESTING

• Where did clinical trials take place and with how many participants?

  Clinical efficacy testing took place at an independent clinical testing facility in the United States, and ranged from 26-35 subjects per study with varied skin concerns and skin tones per the Fitzpatrick scale. Safety testing was performed on 50 subjects, also at an independent clinical testing facility in the US.

• Are Exponent products dermatologist tested?

  Yes, the Exponent products are tested with a dermatologist review for safety, and clinically tested for efficacy.

• What did Exponent find in the research on the degradation of active ingredients (antioxidants like vitamin c and retinol) in competitors' products?

• How do I assemble and use the Self-Activator?

• Why does the Exponent Self-Activator system work better than any other skincare product?

  Air, light and water may set you free—but they kill ingredient potency. Precious and powerful actives break down quickly when exposed to everyday elements. Traditional skincare formats and packaging do not properly prevent exposure and loss of efficacy. So we took our form factor to the next level: A first-of-its-kind anti-degradation preservation system that keeps the efficacy in and the elements out.

• Can I put different powders in the same Globe + Dispenser?

  No, we offer a new, complimentary Globe + Dispenser for each Active Powder so there is no cross contamination in the dispenser.

• Can I use different Active Powders with the Base?

  Yes, you can use different Active Powders (in their Activator Globes + Dispensers) with the same Base.

• How do I clean my Exponent Self-Activator?

  - The Base and Bowl can be wiped or rinsed after each use. We suggest that you rinse the bowl under the faucet at least every 90 doses when you refill your Hydrator. - The translucent Globe top can be rinsed and dried but the Dispenser (where the real dosing magic happens) should be kept dry and cleaned with a Q-Tip every 45 days when you refill your Active Powder.

• What if I expose my Active Powder or my Dispenser to water?

  - Avoid exposing the Active Powders to water. The powder may not dispense properly, and may degrade more rapidly if exposed to water. - Let your dispenser dry out for a few days before inserting a new powder jar. If the dispenser has been clogged permanently, you will need a replacement.

• How should I store the Self-Activator?

  Active Powders are sensitive to water and should be stored with the Rubber Cap for extra protection from humidity. The Self-Activator can be stored anywhere that is dry.

• Can I travel with this product?

  Yes, you can travel with the Self-Activator if you Lock your Base. Stay tuned as we are going to be releasing a travel size soon.

• How do I lock my Base?

  Your Base can be locked easily for travel. Using the assembled Globe + Dispenser, without pushing down, gently twist the Bowl counterclockwise to the ‘locked’ position. Look for the indicator line on the edge of the bowl.

• I left product residue in my Self-Activator and now it’s turned brown, what does this mean?

  The brown color is an indication that the actives have degraded or oxidized over time. As all the Active Powders contain potent actives in stable form, they are best used immediately upon mixing for maximum benefit. This shows how actives in other pre-mixed skincare serums and cream that appear brownish or discolored are likely to have already degraded and oxidized before use (or if the premixed-skincare appears pale or white, certain actives may not present in a high concentration in the first place).

If a consumer no longer wants it for any reason, we offer a take back program so that we can properly recycle it ourselves. Our Active Powders and Hyaluronic Hydrator refills come in glass jars with aluminum caps—infinitely recyclable materials.   Yes, our empties are recyclable! Our Pure Active Powders and Quadruple Hyaluronic Acid Hydrator are packaged in glass jars with aluminum caps. Glass and aluminum are both infinitely recyclable materials and can be put directly into your recycling bin. We also recommend that they be upcycled with uses ranging from small jewelry organizing, air plant containers, and spices.

• Does Exponent offer refillable products?

  Yes, you can purchase Active Powder Refills, as well as Hyaluronic Acid refills. All refillable precision-dosed packaging is reusable and consciously made to eliminate plastic waste.

• Is Exponent packaging phthalate-free?

  Yes, our packaging is free of phthalates.

You can also store multiple shipping addresses to expedite the check out process. • How do I create an account?

  At this time, we only ship within the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska, as well as APO/FPO address.

• Does Exponent ship to military addresses?

  Exponentbeauty.com ships to all stateside locations. All shipments to APO, FPO, and DPO addresses are sent via USPS. Due to military handling time, delivery to some destinations may take up to 21 days.

BILLING

• When will my credit card be charged?

  Your credit card will be charged as soon as your order is accepted and processed.

• What forms of payment do you accept?

  We currently accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Afterpay. When your credit card is authorized, funds are put on hold until the transaction is completed. All purchases require bank authorization prior to shipping. Only authorized orders will be processed and shipped. Your billing information must be exactly as it appears on your credit card statement. If any numbers are different, the order cannot be processed. Be sure to correctly spell city names and avoid using abbreviations (unless that is how it appears on your statement). Contact your financial institution if you need the exact billing address associated with your credit card. For your security, Exponent requires you to enter your 3- or 4-digit card identification number (CID/CVN/CVV/CVC) on all orders for Visa, MasterCard, and American Express transactions.
